该剧讲述了在陕北的一个偏远之地，原住民阎姓族人因一场瘟疫死伤惨重，后幸得宋姓祖先传授爆竹、鞭炮技术拯救阎姓族人，阎姓族人并通过其所授技艺得以兴旺发达，于是两族成为世交。然而，后世子女却因为利益争夺，违背了祖先的旨令，大打出手，争权夺利的故事。。在母親罹患胰臟癌末期後，大提琴老師鐘宜的日子便在授課與醫院中往返。一日因看護請假，她不得不親手幫母親換尿布及清理排泄物。在女兒面前尊嚴盡失的鍾母、在母親面前無所適從的鍾宜，這對母女終究因為內在的惶惶不安，在病房內掀起一場風暴⋯⋯。Val (Jerrod Carmichael) has reached a place where he feels the only way out is to end things.
