The film will concentrate on key aggregation points around the world: Mexico, South Africa...。阿满（张刚 饰）是个喜剧演员兼导演，他编排的喜剧作品深受观众喜爱。然而人怕出名猪怕壮，再好的人不免受到别有用心之人的排挤和非议，但支部书记迟学智（徐平 饰）和女演员白莉（吴海燕 饰）始终站在阿满一边。文革开始后，斗争的矛头对准了阿满，但他仍然苦中作乐，宽厚待人，有时甚至以德报怨。但灾难是不以人的意志为转移的，支持他的迟书记不幸惨死，钟科长（牛犇 饰）趁人之危向白莉求爱遭拒怀恨在心。昔日伙伴撮合阿满和白莉在酒馆相聚，一对有情人相对无言。文革结束后，阿满从“牛棚”中解放出来，他最忘不下的仍是喜剧，但白莉能等到这一天吗.......。
