In hopes of solving the case, the authority goes through the footage that the group has filmed and discovers an entity known as the ...。这部电影以发生在冲绳阿嘉岛民宿中被饲养的雄犬“白”（Shiro）为原型改编而成。白为了与生活在对岸座间味岛的恋人雌犬“玛丽琳”（Marilyn）相会，勇敢地游过大海。这一感人故事启发了这部作品的创作。原作和剧本由野泽尚撰写。饰演白的主角是真正的白犬，而由于拍摄时真正的玛丽琳已经去世，因此采用了同品种的另一只狗来扮演她的角色。。离世的人们最先来到的，便是阴间的市政府办公厅“死役所”。 在这里将会通过手续，决定那些因自杀、他杀、病死、意外死亡等各种原因而死去的人们该去向哪里。 市村是死役所的综合接待，他用礼貌到让人不快的态度面对一个又一个死者——“您是尊贵的逝者”。 来到这里的死者各种各样，有的已经接受了自己的“死亡”，而有的还没能理解现状。 究竟他们曾如何活过、又是如何死去的呢？ 从死者的申请书中抽丝剥茧，生前的惊涛骇浪一个个浮现眼前。 清白无罪者前往天堂，罪孽深重者落入地狱。又或者——。。
