Before David can fulfill his prophecy he must escape the heavily guarded s...。从小跟从父亲学习剑道的矢田部，在一次训练过程中致父亲重伤不治，从此意志消沉，沉迷酒色。极具天赋的高中生羽田机缘巧合跟随僧侣剑道大师光邑习武，并受其所托将一封信转交给矢田部。矢田部借机大闹剑道部，包括羽田在内的学员集体溃败。矢田部无法面对已变成植物人的父亲，整日沉溺在童年阴影和错杀父亲的愧疚中。一个雷雨交加的夜里，羽田在矢田部的必经之路上向他发起挑战，并坦言自己曾经因为溺水而留下心理阴影，希望能和内心同样痛苦的前辈一较高下，矢田部恍惚中重伤羽田。矢田部的父亲病逝，葬礼上矢田部仪态尽失，在光邑大师的安抚下，读了父亲写给大师的一封信，其中声明自己在丧妻之后一蹶不振，和儿子之间已生罅隙，自己一心求死，想命丧儿子剑下，但希望光邑培养儿子成材。重整旗鼓的矢田部终于将要迎来和羽田一场正式的比赛。 影片改编自芥川赏作家藤泽周同名小说。。
